My Story
As I was growing up, everyone around me would always tell me to volunteer and get involved at school, but I felt that I could achieve more by impacting the world and giving back by serving others. Growing up in both China and all around California, I overcame the language barrier of not knowing English when I was younger, feeling excluded because of my race and ethnicity, finding out that I was adopted, and moving every few years which forced me to start over again every time.
How It Began…
After getting past the problems I have faced, I didn’t want anyone else to experience or go through their own issues feeling alone. I want to aid others, find solutions to their problems, help support them, and show them that they are not alone. I have lived a relatively sheltered life and was not exposed to many social issues growing up. I wasn’t wholly dedicated or deeply connected with any one specific issue in the world, so I didn’t know how or where to contribute and what problems to solve because I struggled to find a personal connection to one single issue.
Everywhere I traveled and moved to, I noticed issues in our world, problems that needed to be solved, and the hardships that others had to endure. Moving around to the many places that I have lived in, I have faced several issues, different everywhere I went. So I found a way to learn and explore different issues in the world and then spread awareness, educate others, create solutions, and find ways to contribute and help solve these problems while also benefiting other students by helping them find a way to get involved, find their passion, and ways to contribute as well.
The Last Say
By creating The Last Say, I planned to host monthly interviews with nonprofits, organizations dedicated to the cause, and people who have personal experiences with these difficulties to spread their messages around the world. I wanted to get involved and contribute to have an impact and help find a solution, so I started to plan events and projects to become involved with them. I started this platform to raise awareness of all the current global issues in our world by providing the perspectives of others and their experiences to help others and contribute in my own way to causes while also giving others an opportunity to do the same.
